I've been thinking all along that I would simply hang these satellites when complete. As of yesterday, I'm now thinking about stands. I don't want to drill into the bodies though -unless I created a cover hatch to hide the hole when not on the stand.
It struck me that having these models laid out on a wine rack of sorts would be cool. Then I thought: put that rack on the wall. Suddenly, there's something good going on methinks.
I'm formulating the design and attachments. A round model like Frenchie can't go rolling by itself. And as they are all different lengths, the support brackets must conform to them individually.
I can see the four screen sats on one rack in order of appearance. The two cut sats on their own rack. Then the unfilmed four on another. Perhaps with an honorary slot for the lost sat. Brass name plates for each will be a nice touch against a respectable brown stain showing off the wood grain.
Maybe a single tall rack for them all? I'll get designing.
------------------------- Do you guys find that you run out of display space fast?
I got a new book cabinet last week and it's already filled up! I'm even fast running out of ceiling space! Going to the walls seems the next frontier. What else can one do?

I too have been wondering about how to mount/display my models. The Chinese satellite was easy since the hole I drilled into it for the acrylic rod is between the radiator fins and out of sight.
While I could do the same thing for my French and American satellites, the heavier weight of these two kits means I would have to drill two holes into them, marring the finished product slightly.
One thing I am considering is making some supports out of clear plexiglass to give the effect of them floating in space.
Another thought I had was to use a clear acrylic base like the kind used in awards. After a visit to some trophy shops I found they were too expensive and too limited in size and shape for my purpose. Seems the shops buy them pre-cut and then etch the lettering on them.

Yep, been thinking stands, too. I'm thinking of getting some cut plex blocks, gluing them together and putting a couple rods in the top. The holes in the model's underside, could be covered by plugs, if hung. BTW, have you seen Martin McLaughlin's nice Seaview stand? modeling.paragrafix.com/other/SeaviewStand/SeaviewStand.asp
