Hi fellows,
I thought I`ld share pics, my opinion and a sort of "building log" about the Lunar Models Discovery kit I purchased in 2006 (and I got it in 2007, just to explain the thread title).
First, my opinion: This is one of the finest castings I ever saw in resin, regardless which model kit you can think about. Only one small scratch on the CM, that`s it. Everything else is perfect, including the spine. I`m very happy that this is so, because I heard all that bad stuff ybout the kit. But I simply mailed Lunar Models before I sent them my order, explaining my concerns, and they promised me I wouldn`t regret to buy one because those old problems are solved. Well. they have been right!
The only parts that are not so fine are the engines - not because of the casting, but because of their size and shape. Not symmetrical and wrong in size they`re useless. But a friend from the UK comes to the rescue here, he will send me castings of engines he`s making for a 1:144 scale Discovery - they should fit very well on the LM kit, although the scale is given as 1:211 here, what is simply wrong in my eyes.
Here are some pics of the main modules, just out of the box:
Command sphere (yes, it IS really a sphere...):

Connector module:

Engine section:

At the moment I`m sanding the bottoms of the fuel modules to mount them onto the spine, so expect more pictures soon...
Greetings from Germany
