From Adam: ----------------------------------------------- Space Station V is here at work. The 2-D drawings have been converted so that the machine shop can mill them. This will happen by next month. Only one quarter of the wheel is actually being made. therefore, each arc can be cast in 4 parts. And the hub is a solid piece.
At 28" across, this kit is begging for lights! And would be a major sweet factor. Is there anyway to cast it so that perhaps one side of a wheel has a panel or cover of some sort that is glued on?

I'll take two models.
Will there be an option to purchase additional parts to "finish" the second ring of the station? I'd like to build one as a complete station (i.e., Space Station 4). If not, depending on the price, I'd be interested in purchasing a third model, for the parts to finish off the second model. Then I'll build out the parts-bashed third model at an even earlier stage of constuction (SS 6).
It would be really, really cool if you had scale Pods doing the construction...

That is great idea THX! Maybe I am in for three? Maybe. The opposite of your idea for a complete one could be done too -all skeleton instead of skin! And bash a third into just the hub and spokes. Over a series of five, (hanging from the ceiling along an entire run of wall, of course) you could have: 1. Hub and spokes as delivered and assembled by scale Orions. 2. 1 Wheel skeleton w/ pods 3. 2 Wheel skeleton 4. 1 wheel skinned ala' the film 5. 2 wheel skinned I figure the Orion arms would be the proper tools for big construction like hubs and spokes. Pods would be better at skinning the structure. Now that I think of it, an Orion would be pretty small in scale. How big would a pod be? The size of a BB? That's something for the CG team to incorporate in post. They can add welding lights too. Above all else, I 'm hoping we can light this puppy! Any ideas of what the scale ratio is for this, anyone? The model being 28" across, and the station being n across. Have I heard a kilometer mentioned along the way? That would make a simple ~1/1000 range?

Word is; the station can be lit! 'Key parts of the kit will be rotocast.' Perhaps delivered by mid 2009??? Start saving!

I definitely want the Space Station kit as well. This is awesome news!
Let's hope that 2009 is the year we start seeing many 2001 deliveries! And 2010 promises to be quite a year for strolling down memory lane! :-) -Robert

Here's a bit of leaking news: The station master is fully machined! Adam is not quite ready to show it off yet though. Perhaps she'll be visible at WF this year?!?
For the heck of it, I drew a 28" circle on my drafting table a few mins ago... Holy-moly!

Hi, How will be done the unfinished ring ? On the Space Station made for my 2001 special issue magazine (back in 2001…) the details were manufactured in perspex with a computer tool. The "arcs" are solid brass profiles to give solid structures to carry weight. The Station measures about 50 cm diameter. I imagine a 30" one !!! Sorry to hear of your tragedy. My condolences to you and your family. I'll check in w/ Adam this week. Last I heard a few months ago, he had machined all the masters from aircraft aluminum which turned out to be too heavy for the molds. Something like that. Regardless, he had to remake the masters. His order of releases, at that point, was the Ger Sat, then a surprise kit, his version of the US sat and then the Station. He had thought they would all be ready for the end of this year. He had thought Gerry would be ready by May, so things may have changed for him... TMA - I was under the impression the unfinished ring would be brass, but I would have to double check that. Stay tuned with some patience.

I spoke with Adam this evening and there are updates! SSVThe Station has many parts which are ready for photographs. He is thinking the unfinished wheel will be done in laser cut acrylic, but he is still working on that notion. There are other details forthcoming. German Sat.Adam updated here: odec.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=kits&thread=88&page=1USSatAnd he has begun work on the American satellite. The body is basically shaped and work will proceed as time allows. Bonus ItemAdam has a major-surprise kit that will be ready about the same time as the German sat is ready, but he has no idea on price yet. He's getting cost estimates for the molds now. I'll break my word and drop a hint that it is a foot across and will be the kit-to-beat in terms of accuracy. I think that's it. Adam is going to stop by and post directly 'soon', so stay tuned for that. Hope this helps tide things over. Sorry for my delay in getting info. The timing was just as well the way it was.
