Hey all, Welp it was a little longer time coming than the Captain expected, but the Baby Aries is shipping and mine arrived yesterday.
What a great little kit!
As anguished as I can sometimes get waiting for some of Scott's pre-orders to deliver, I am always deeply grateful that he has taken the effort to do what he does. His passion and devotion to the 2001 universe is inspiring. His work, humbling.
Scott is the first GK'er I discovered a few years ago, and still my fave. As everyone here knows, his research is hard core, his craft exceptional. And as with all of Scott's kits, this one pretty much assembles itself. Any flashing mostly whisks away. All the details are distinct and crisp.
I first saw this build about two years ago. I had ordered his D-7 and drove up to Bakersfield to pick it up. Sitting on one of his shelves was a build of this lil' guy. "Wow!" I thought. Then I saw the 15" hull castings and even the one of the 36" hulls in his shop. I was sold. Prior to that, I had thought this was a cool enough design, but seeing it in resin like that sold me.
If yer a fan of the film, this 6" version is a real nice 'memento'. It is small enough to sit on any shelf quite nicely and large enough to be substantial. It's big enough to stuff plenty of lights inside and there is talk of an interior kit from another GK'er possibly in the works. Otw, I'll have to scratch the guts up myself. For me, this kit demands it.
And I would be remiss if I did not wish Scott's buddy Jim, restful peace and deepest condolences to Scott on the recent loss of a lifelong friend.
