I've got the crazy notion of motorizing a pod bay door. Anyone else? The main factors to consider are: 1. the motor shuts off when the door reaches it's destination. 2. it open at a particular speed. 3. once open, the same button and motor should close the door. I initially thought it could be done by attaching strings to each end of the door wrapped around a motor and pivot points, but it's more complicated than that. The frosting on the beater would be getting the pod floor to slide out afterwards! I think putting a turntable under the pod as well would be a bit much at that point! Here's some initial musings I had some time ago. See if my shorthand makes any sense. We've still got a pile of time to wait.

Go to the Atomic city site. Someone did it using a small electric motor.
