Oddly, the Moebius kit's decals, are only panel lines and such. They don't have the PanAm emblem, as seen in the film. This keeps you from having an accurate model, without spending more fund$. WTF? However, TSDS Inc. has released detail sheets that includes PanAm, NASA, USAF markings, and window interior details. $14.99 at: www.tsdsinc.com/index_files/SPACECLIPPER.htmNow we can build a fleet!

Just got mine from CultTVman. It came very quickly. I emailed Moebius about why the Pan Am decals were not included, since these are necessary to make a true replica. The tongue-in cheek answer was "It is not a replica of anything. It is just a 'space clipper.' When you buy it from the store, you can make it into anything you want." They also noted they did not have a license from Pan Am. I like the kit, and I'm looking forward to building it. However, I'm disappointed that the panel lines are only offered as a decal; they are not engraved on the ship. If you want to do a highly realistic Orion, you're going to have to get out a scribing tool and a lot of reference material. The shapes are right, but the lack of engraved detail takes the kit down a few notches for me. This is definitely aimed at the beginning modeler. You'll have to have some skills to really do it up right. But it is definitely reminiscent of the old Aurora kit. It will require the aftermarket decals, so grit your teeth and spend the extra $17 bucks.

Man thats really tacky of Moebius to skimp on the panel lines and decals. Lowers my expectactions of the kit and the manufacuter.
I'll get it but engrave myown lines and do the panel shading with paints.

Surely that's a bit of a cheat. Only just noticed that there are no Pan Am markings on the box art!

I wil definitely get that decal set. I can't believe that with all the decals they made, Moebieus couldn't have come up with some Pan Am decals. And then to come back and say its just a model when EVERYONE knows that it is the Pan Am space shuttle.
On a side note I am making the Vulcan Shuttle re-issue and it has a hundred decals to put on it to simulate the detail of the movie model. I guess this is just the wave of the future.
On another issue wouldn't it be interesting to put airliner decals on the LOTG Spindrift model to show how it would look if sub-orbital passenger liners became a reality. This was the premise of the Orient Express SCRAM-jet during the 80's.

Reading all this made me go for the Stargazer kit. Stargazer's was worth saving the extra money for, imo. At ~17", it's a biggun too!

Man thats really tacky of Moebius to skimp on the panel lines and decals. Lowers my expectactions of the kit and the manufacuter. I'll get it but engrave my own lines and do the panel shading with paints. They didn't skimp - that is how the filming miniature was. It opens up lots of options: decals, scribing or drawing/painting them on, as the studio original. Marty...
