Was reading out on Altair IV (altairvi.blogspot.com/2008/03/2001-at-40.html).

According to the timeline in Jerome Agel's The Making of Kubrick's 2001, the movie was screened for the editors of Life magazine on March 29, 1968, then for the press in Washington, DC, on March 31 and April 1. It had its world premiere in Washington on April 2, then premiered in New York on April 3 and in Los Angeles on April 4. The initial audience responses led Kubrick to cut 19 minutes from the film. The edited version screened first in New York City on April 6, 1968.

Don't know about the 8th.
