Here is my version of the Air force satellite done as it would look if it was made today knowing what we do now about space. s61.photobucket.com/albums/h61/2001ship/2001%20sattelites/?action=view¤t=DSC09856.jpgThe outside has been coated with gold foil from candy wrappers to simulate the reflective gold foil used today. I plan to add more antennas, rails and hand holds and RCS trhusters to the exterior. The cage work on the rear is where it is attached to the shuttle during servicing. The panels are covered in Bare metal foil and will simulate panels that can be opened by the astronauts while in orbit like the Hubble telescope. This is the old resin kit of the satellite that has been upgraded with the AJA models kit. I didn't know what to do with this kit until the idea struck me of trying to make a "real space" version of the craft. My inspiration was a picture of the failed russian Mars/Phobos probe which is completly covered in gold foil.

Very cool approach. 2001 does look a little different from 2013.
