It looks like a great book but I'm afraid that at $750 for the basic set I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Just got my books yesterday and paged through the "main" book.
Before getting into the details of what is and isn't included with respect to source material relevant to model building, my overall first impression is that this book is a work of supreme craftsmanship with exquisite attention to detail and beautiful design. I expected as much from Taschen, but to actually look at the quality of the layout, image quality and what little text I was able to digest between poring over the gorgeous images is a different story. Many of the photographs and drawings we've all seen before hundreds of times, but most are of such higher quality as to appear to be new. There are also hundreds of images that I've never seen before. There's a reason for this. Kubrick was a photographer long before he got into film production. Many of the behind-the scenes photo's show Kubrick carrying or using a camera. Guess where all of those photographs ended up?
If there's a downside, it's the lack of new blueprints. The blueprints in the book appear to be of higher quality than in AJ's book... not sure if this is due to post-processing, better scanning or whatever. I did see a blueprint of the Discovery CM that had the diameter at 54'. The blueprint also showed the centrifuge position.
Another shocker: the pit under the front of the pod bay was detailed with pipes, a bank of lights and at least one air nozzle unit. Simply amazing attention to detail for an area that never appeared in the film.
More later.

HOLY CARP! It's beautiful. The book was less than $50 as a preorder. At over 550 pages, that's less than a penny a page. Much I have seen before, but lots of material I haven't.
