Just for historical reference: Kubrick ordered 11 'Bombs' to be made by the model shop. 10 are known to still exist in photograph form. 5 made it to the directors initial cut, 4 made it to the final cut. the others are: 6. US bomb #7 7. US imaging telescope 8. British bomb 9. US Communications array 10. US Deep space probe 11. Unknown.

I've puzzled over these for a few days. Here's my guesses.
A. US Telescope: Big hole down the middle, side dishes suggest non-visual stereo imaging.
B. US Comm Array: Big dish on the 'front'
C. US Deep Space Probe: Nose cone payload .
D. Brit Bomb: Looks like La France's Beumb.
Other rationale and ideas?

Pretty good guess....However, Bomb #2 could have been any one of these!

Adam, Are you saying that Bomb 6 in the top photo is US and not Russian? That Bomb 2 in the top photo could be any of the ideas that I had in my previous entry?
In that case, #2 could be the Russian in the crowd. It might look 'German' if the cold war alliance held a strong enough sway and the Germans were getting their designs from Russia and not America.
That 3 of them are octgaonal and one definitely DL and the other US is not helpful.... But as 2 of 3 are different nations, I would throw Bomb #2 as a third nation as well. And if Bomb 6 is ours and not the Russians, as Mark was thinking, then that leave them out of the loop so far making Bomb#2 theirs.
If I'm reading your statement wrong, Adam, then everything I just wrote can be ignored as your bomb 2 reference was really bomb B in your photo. And that one I would still say looks most like a comm sat of them all.

Tom, Bomb 6 IS Russian. The picture at the top right of this page may or may not be Bomb 2. The pics posted by Lunadude last week show other satellites that may or may not be Bomb 2 as well! Bottom line, is that I have found no reference as to which Bomb is 'defined' as #2. Bombs 1, 3, 4, 5, 6. have been defined in preproduction drawings. AJ :>

Intriguing! So for those trying to keep score like myself: Of 11: Five bombs are photo'd and identified. Five photos are unidentified. Five descriptions are available for those five. The 11th remains a total mystery. So who would have that 11th bomb? The Jamaicans? We need a new master photo, this is confusing! This list not in order 1. US Bomb -photo, Prod ID#1 2. US Bomb 3. US telescope 4. US Deep space probe 5. US Commsat 6. Brit Bomb 7. Chinese bomb -photo, Prod ID#3 8. German bomb -photo, Prod ID#4 9. French bomb -photo, Prod ID#5 10. Russian Bomb -photo, Prod ID#6 11. Jamaican Space Sled Team

I'll give a vote for Louisiana as the owner of the 11th bomb. ;D

Hello everyone! My name is Jim Botaitis. I operate JBOT DECALS at www.jbot.ca. I obtained from Ian (Stargazer Models) a resin casting of the US Bomb ("01 - US" in the photo above). I will post photos of my finished model in a few days. Ian tells me he plans to produce 5 bombs in 1/144th scale. So here is my decal sheet which I have developed for all the bombs, even though the models are not all ready yet: www.jbot.ca/private/Upload/bomb-art.jpgI added the British roundels on the assumption that "02 - unknown" will later be determined to be the bomb from Great Britain. I am also assuming that Ian will build it ... :-) Jimbo JBOT DECALS

Very nice decal sheet.
BTW, I've been looking for the right decals for the existing US bomb kit (Stars & Bars and the "S9"). Might I be able to purchase those as a custom set?
