I'm back at it! And I wanna kill this build off in the next 30 days! I started by printing up the hi-rez reference pix (Thanks to Lee Stringer over in the Ref Section!!!) at full size. The prints are on the order of 50" long now! Yikes! The details are excruciatingly beautiful. Drool.

Well now that AJA models has announced a U.S. satellite that will be acccurate it kind makes all the work I have done to the Mad Dogs kit irrelevant. I plan to get the new one when it becomes available and maybe use it as a reference. Until then I'm shelving all work on it. I gotta say, when the patterns where done for this kit, none of the references that have surfaced in the last year or so where available. I scoured high and low for references. The patterns were built mostly working from screen captures, available sketches, and some inspiration from some fan built models. Did the best we could with what was available. Charlie

If we all waited for a more "accurate" kit of any of kind model to come along, (based on our perceptions as well as available resources), we wouldn't be buying or building anything just in case a "better" version comes along one, two or ten years later. Scott's smaller Aries 1B is an example. He is in the process of reworking the kit to update the accuracy that wasn't present in the original release 10 years ago. But at the time, it was the only one available and was a big seller. On Ebay it still is. Don't fret about all of the work you put into the American satellite. You enhanced your modeling skills and made a beautiful display piece to show off! Well said! As I mentioned in the above post, I wish I had half the reference material for the US Satellite that is now available None of this was available when these patterns where made.....I'll buy a new one as well, but I'm still building the one I put out! What I said was in no way to denigrate Red Dog's kit. I had the same problem doing the Discovery kit, working only from old references. After the kit came out stuff appeared that I would jave killed for while doing the masters. Oh well.
I also have a Y-wing from SMT that will probaably be sold cheaply now that Fine Molds came out with their much better kit.

Charlie Don't even think of it that way, Charlie. I for one love this kit! The eventual AJAM model may be uber-acurate, but this was the first. And you always remember your first. This has been a great model for me to learn on and experiment with. I'm bringing it on home now. Hope you are still making these by the time I can afford another one for the stash!!!
